Opt for neutral walls
If you want to create a space that is multifunctional, neutral walls are a good idea. Whether you want your guest bedroom to double as a snug, family entertainment room, office or playroom, the key is to keep the walls neutral.
What it’s important to remember when decorating the room is that while it will be used by guests, it will be used by your family more. Make sure that the decor of the room is to your personal taste, while being as neutral and tranquil as possible.
If you are a fan of bright colours, that’s great, but don’t put them on the walls. Instead, add colour to the room by using textiles and accessories, such as pillows, throws, and wall art.
Be clever when it comes to beds
Okay, so the main thing that a guest bedroom needs is a bed. However, that doesn’t have to mean that you have a giant double bed plonked in your spare room; there are other options that you could consider.
If you want to keep your guest bedroom as multifunctional as possible sofa beds, day beds or futons are a great idea. When you don’t have guests, you can use them as seating, but when you do, they can be used as beds.
Invest in smart storage
If you want to stay at someone’s house, you wouldn’t you want to sleep in clutter, would you? Well, neither would your guests, so it’s important that your guest bedroom has clever storage and is free of clutter. You want to give your guests the illusion that the bedroom they are staying in has been created just for them, so clever storage is essential.
Does your guest bedroom double as a playroom? Yes? Your kid’s toys should not be on display, so find ways to hide them with storage. Do you use your guest bedroom as an office? Yes? Make sure that your desk is either hidden away in a wardrobe or could double as a dressing table.
Whatever storage that you choose to invest in, it should be perfectly matched to your needs. Think about what you use your guest bedroom for and pick storage that will allow you to hide that.
Creating a multifunctional guest bedroom doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, if you follow my simple tips above, you should have no problem creating an amazing multifunctional space.
